Dubai, April 15, 2015: True to its mission ìLocal Roots GlobalReachî, the University of Dubai†(UD) has expanded its academic reach to welcome more international students, especially from†countries such as Germany, Mexico, India and China. Last October, a group of 20 students from the Hamburg School of Business Administration,†Germany, visited UD to learn about Dubaiís strategy for the upcoming Expo 2020, particularly in†Logistics and Procurement areas. The students were offered an expert view by an industry†practitioner from Dubai Airports about the importance of Dubaiís strategic location in the†success of the major event. The visit of the German students was followed by a 25 students from Panamericana University,†Mexico. Panamericana University and the University of Dubai pose to sign a memorandum of†understanding (MOU) in February 2016 for a two-week study abroad programme. On March 29th, UD welcomed 20 MBA students from SDM Institute for Management†Development, India, for a one-week study abroad programme focusing on the education,†business and cultural aspects. With a combination of lectures and company visits, the†programme provided the students a holistic view of the fields of Finance, Human Resources,†Marketing, Business and Logistics/Procurement. Handing out Certificates of Accomplishment to the 20 students, Dr. Eesa M. Al Bastaki, President†of UD, said: ìGlobal educational cooperation is the future of higher education.î He urged†students to learn and practice the A PIE acronym in their educational and professional life;†Analysis, Planning, Implementation, Evaluation. Dr. Ananth Rao, Chief Academic Officer at UD, said: ìThe growth of our international role is†based on our belief that institutions of higher education should work together to promote†global understanding of cultural aspects.î Following the success of the programme, the university is in discussions to offer MBA credited†courses and internship for the students of SDM Institute, as it did earlier by joining hands with†three other prestigious institutions ñ NingXia University, China; ISBR, India, and TAPMI, India. The students from Ningxia University and ISBR are currently taking MBA courses with internship†to gain first-hand work experience and academic exposure. The students from TAPMI will not†only take courses and do their internship but will earn their MBA degree from UD. Under these programmes, the SDM students from Mysore, India, visited four companies as†part of site visits and participated in five guest lectures at UD under the Middle East†Familiarization programme. A second batch of five students from Ningxia University, and a†batch of six students from ISBR (International School of Business and Research), Bangalore,†India, have registered for MBA courses, including internships. A third batch of five students†from TAPMI (TA Pai Management Institute), Mangalore, India, have registered for a nine-month†programme at UD to earn their UD MBA after completing nine months at TAPMI under UD-TAPMI MBA programme. ìThis is the first time that such a batch of 36 international students have chosen UD as their†destination to continue their higher education. UD is proud to have such international students†in their programmes which offer mutual win-win situations to both domestic students as well as†international students. Such experiences no doubt will enhance the quality of learning by both†sets of students, and in turn benefit the employers through culturally rich exchange of business†graduates.î Dr. Rao said.
