†First phase of the campus in Dubai Academic City ready to welcome Business, IT and Law students †Dubai, UAE; August 12, 2015: The University of Dubai welcomed Prof. Badr Aboul-Ela, Director of the Commission for Academic Accreditation at the UAE Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research, on a visit of the new campus currently being constructed in Dubai Academic City. The new campus is built to be the first university premises in the region to be certified to Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED), a green building certification programme that recognizes best-in-class building strategies and practices, when completed. The first phase of construction of the new campus has been completed and is ready to accommodate students from the Faculties of Business Administration, Information Technology and Law. Prof. Aboul-Ela was welcomed by Dr. Eesa Al Bastaki, President of the University of Dubai, and site engineers, who provided a brief digital presentation covering the design, architectural and construction aspects of the new campus as well as the world-class amenities to be provided for students and faculty. Dr. Al Bastaki explained that the University of Dubai is setting a new standard in the construction of academic premises with its focus on the highest levels of sustainability and energy-use efficiency. ìOur goal is to provide a truly world-class environment for our students and to ensure a healthy, green and sustainable lifestyle environment that promotes their wellness. We are pleases to welcome Dr. Aboul-Ela and underline our commitment to fulfil our mission to be a premier institution in the UAEís higher education sector.î Al Bastaki added: ìIt is essential that educational institutions take into consideration the welfare of the students by providing all amenities that meet their needs ñ from recreation and sports centres to free parking areas and a healthy classroom environment.î Prof. Aboul-Ela congratulated the University of Dubai for the successful construction of the first phase of the new campus and commended the management for developing a state-of-the art premises. ìThe world-class physical infrastructure and positive classroom environment being built at the University of Dubai will have a profound impact on students benefiting their all-round educational, emotional and ethical development,î said Prof. Aboul-Ela. The Universityís first phase of the new campus is built on an area of 22,270 sq. m. with a capacity to serve up to 1,500 students. The new premises will be equipped with a range of facilities including computer and language labs, rooms for debates, seminars and case studies, a library and breakout and study areas and conference room.
