The University of Dubai Women Council (UDWC) organized a two-daysí workshop, panel discussions and exhibition to acknowledge and appreciate the womenís efforts on their International Day. The celebration, which was held on March 8th and 9th at the University of Dubai in Dubai Academic City, witnessed the participation of a number of UAE women leaders, entrepreneurs, and professionals. The speakers at the workshop included Taim Al-Falasi, Awatif Al-Mutawa, Amal Al-Badawi, Lilian Mohammed and Walaa Al-Shehhi. They tackled different topics among them gender equality, women empowerment, women and innovation, women and happiness, the future women, as well as women and leadership. The exhibition displayed major achievements and innovations of women in the areas of food, arts and design. The celebration, which was organized by the Women Council in collaboration with the Student Union, was attended by UD President Dr. Eesa Al Bastaki, along with UD faculties members, staff and students. Dr. Al Bastaki highlighted the University’s keenness to celebrate this occasion. He said: ìsince its establishment, the UAE has provided women the opportunity to lay down many achievements that we are proud of.î He added that women’s empowerment in the society has witnessed a tremendous development in their roles, especially in the educational field. ìWe are reaping the fruits of women empowerment in many leading positions and roles in all areas.î During his speech, he announced the opening of the first Women Council room for female students at UD to protect their privacy and unleash their creativity. Ahmad Alkaitoob, President of Student Union said that the students’ council is keen to participate in the celebration that sheds light on the significant role of women in building the UAE society in general and UD in specific.
