The University of Dubai Signs MoU with Rashid Center for People of Determination

The University of Dubai (UD) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rashid Center for People of Determination, in order to support social responsibility initiatives in the UAE. The MoU aims at devising a cogent Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)  program that determines, affirms and enlarges the University’s scope of values in  governmental, semi-governmental, public, and private institutions.  

The memorandum was signed by UD President Dr. Eesa Al Bastaki and Director General of the Rashid Center for People of Determination Maryam Othman.

The MoU focuses on protecting the rights of people of determination in receiving proper education services and ensuring that they can reach their full potential. This would grant people with special needs equal opportunities to unleash their creativity and discover their capabilities in all educational and vocational institutions.

Under the memorandum, the University commits to support the center and hold exhibitions on campus displaying the center’s student paintings to encourage UD students and employees to interact with people of determination. The University is also committed to offering special discounts and scholarships to the families of students affiliated with the center as well as its employees.

On the other hand, the center ensures to honor the University and help distribute the honorary list of students through various media and social networking sites.

Dr. Al Bastaki said that the signing of the memorandum defines the University’s appreciative approach towards the center’s role and efforts in supporting people of determination.  It also highlights the University’s interest  in encouraging social responsibility initiatives and  preparing future generations who are scientifically and morally qualified for developing sustainable societies. “Social responsibility basically means love of the homeland, dedication to work, sincerity and respect for others,” he added. 

He also discussed the University’s significant and effective role in enriching the community with academic and scientific research that contributes to UAE’s national and international development.

For her part, Maryam Othman praised the cooperation with the University and the support it provides to the centre’s children of determination. “The University of Dubai believes in the pivotal and comprehensive role played by the center in caring for people of determination, which contributes to providing them with an educational and therapeutic environment,” she said. 

She also pointed out that the center contributes to providing educational programs and platforms as well as creating inclusive learning experiences for them. She clarified that this comes in line with the “My community… a city for everyone” initiative launched by the Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to accelerate the development of a comprehensive education system within the framework of Dubai’s strategic planning for embracing People of Determination in addition to ensuring their satisfaction and inclusion in the community.
