The University of Dubai (UD) hosted Dr. Reem Al Gurg, a professor at Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences, during a seminar on the role of PhD programs in the development of research centers in the UAE. Dr. Al Gurg spoke about her own experience in dealing with research centers in Britain as she received her degree from Bradford University. She stressed the importance of opening governmental and private institutions in the country for doctoral students and researchers to help them develop their research further. She also encouraged academic institutions and doctoral students to take the initiative in putting pressure on the public and private sectors and make them more interested in supporting research and studies. “People who looking for a promising future urgently need to establish and develop centers of research and studies at all levels, especially medical, scientific, technological, social and other,” she said. The seminar was attended by a number of business entrepreneurs in addition to students and professors from the University of Dubai, headed by Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Jeffrey Gachino. UD President Dr. Eesa Al Bastaki commented on the seminar, saying: “We are honored to welcome Dr. Reem to the University of Dubai and highlight such an important issue in the education sector about doctoral studies and their importance in the development of research in the UAE.î
