University of Dubai Seminar Calls for Community Participation in Sustainability Initiatives

  DSC_7907         Umm Al Momineen Association attracts participation from 153 contestants†in environmental competition Dubai, April 20, 2015: University of Dubai organised in collaboration with Umm Al Momineen†Association Ajman an environmental seminar which highlighted the environmental aspect of†community responsibility. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Easa M. Al Bastaki, President of University of Dubai, supported the†principle of partnership between the private and public sectors to develop the concept of social†responsibility with an environmental dimension. Lama Lutfi, from Umm Al Momineen Association gave an overview of an environmental†competition on the theme, ëCarbon Footprintí, organised by the Association to promote†environmental awareness on per capita carbon emissions among all segments of the society. The competition offers an opportunity for people to contribute towards efforts to reduce†environmental pollution, she said.†Lutfi explained that the competition has attracted participation from 153 contestants in various†categories, which include scientific works, creative works, best photo or painting or caricature. The jury panel includes specialists from the field of environment and sustainability, and the†winners will be announced on May 5, 2015, Lutfi said. Dr. Emad Saad, Expert in Sustainability, Green Applications and Corporate Social Responsibility,†highlighted in interactive presentation the shared responsibility to protect the environment. Describing the environmental dimension of social responsibility, Dr. Saad pointed out that the†greed for profits has led to serious environmental impacts. He called for efforts to involve†community participation in sustainability initiatives and stressed the need for a global†competitive index on sustainability. Dr. Saad pointed towards greater accountability and transparency in environmental social†responsibility, and emphasised on the creation of a culture of energy and water conservation by†promoting sustainable behaviour to save precious natural resources for future generations.
