dsc_1198 dsc_1100 Under the theme of ìFuture Work Environment for Young Generations,î the University of Dubai (UD) in collaboration with Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA) held the ìFirst Happiness Laboratoryî on October 24th, 2016 at UD to provide students with the appropriate tools and techniques for creating a happier future work environment, trigger their imaginations, and encourage innovation. In the presence of UD President Dr. Eesa Al Bastaki and Chief Executive Officer at DSOA Dr. Mohammed Al Zarouni, more than 60 students participated in an interactive workshop and enjoyed 4 hours of entertaining, informative, and stress relieving activities. The interactive laboratory included an introductory presentation about DSOA with its objectives, mission and vision in 2021. The brief presentation specified the four main goals of DSOA to be fulfilled by 2021 within a strategic framework which includes building smarter cities, sophisticated technologies, and happier communities within Dubai and UAE. The presentation was followed by a brainstorming session within which each group consisting of 3-6 students had to think outside the box, come up with creative designs, and apply them to their imagined future workplace by using ìdesign thinkingî techniques. In order to integrate happy and positive attitudes with the academic discipline, DSOA provided UDís library with 60 books tackling various topics related to happiness and the keys to providing a better innovative workplace. Commenting on the event, Dr. Al Bastaki stated: “We are pleased to participate in the laboratory of happiness and encourage young generations to contribute to UAEís vision in transforming all emirates into a happier place.î ìInvolving universities in this initiative is essential when it comes to foreseeing the future if we want to reach positive results. I am also confident that young innovative proposals will have a significant role in developing the concept of the future business environment and raise the level of happiness among staff and employees,” he concluded. During the event, Dr. Al Zarouni said: ´we seek through happiness laboratories to identify the aspirations of young people and benefit from their ideas and creativity which will help us in upgrading the work environment and raising the level of happiness.î He added, ìHappiness is and must always be a fundamental pillar and an integral part of the work institutions and organizations in the UAE.î The ìHappiness Labî is a unique, creative initiative that aims at inventing, suggesting, and implementing new ways, tools and techniques for establishing happiness and positivity within an ideal workplace by communicating with university students and researching their mentalities, future outlooks, and approaches.
